Derzhprom (Ukrainian: Держпром), also known as the Palace of Industry, is a famous constructivist building located in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine. It was designed by the famous Soviet architect Sergei Serafimov and constructed between 1925 and 1928.
The building served as the headquarters of the Ukrainian State Industry, or Derzhprom, during the Soviet era. It was a symbol of the Soviet industrialization and the ambitious goals of the communist regime. The building was designed to be a modern and functional space that could accommodate large numbers of workers and serve as a hub for the country's industrial activities.
The Derzhprom building is an impressive structure that features a total of 12 floors and stands at a height of 63 meters (207 feet). It was the tallest building in the Soviet Union at the time of its construction and remains one of the tallest buildings in Ukraine to this day. The building is made of steel and concrete, and its facade is adorned with decorative elements made of granite and glass.
The interior of the building features a large atrium with a skylight that provides natural light to the lower floors. The upper floors of the building were originally designed to house government offices and conference rooms, while the lower floors were used as exhibition spaces and industrial workshops.
Today, Derzhprom serves as a mixed-use building, housing a variety of businesses, offices, and government agencies. The building is also a popular tourist attraction and is considered to be one of the most important examples of Soviet constructivist architecture in Ukraine.
