Davolja Varos, also known as Devil's Town, is a natural phenomenon located in southern Serbia, near the town of Kursumlija. It is a unique geological formation, consisting of more than 200 natural rock formations, shaped like tall stone pillars or cones, some of which reach a height of up to 15 meters.
The pillars are made of volcanic rock and are shaped by erosion caused by the water and wind over millions of years. The formations have various shapes, with some resembling human figures, animals, or mushrooms. The site also features several underground streams and mineral springs.
The legend has it that Davolja Varos is a place cursed by the devil, which explains the name Devil's Town. According to the legend, a wedding party was taking place in the area, and the devil, being envious of the festivities, turned everyone into stone.
The site has been declared a natural monument and is protected by the Serbian government. It is also a popular tourist attraction, with a small visitor center, walking paths, and observation platforms that offer stunning views of the pillars and the surrounding landscape.
