Chester Zoo is a large zoo located in Cheshire, England, and is one of the most popular zoos in the UK. It was opened in 1931 and has been expanding and improving ever since, now covering an area of over 500 acres.
The zoo is home to over 35,000 animals from over 500 species, including many rare and endangered species, such as the Sumatran tiger, African painted dog, and Asian elephant. The zoo has an emphasis on conservation and education and is involved in many conservation programs both in the UK and abroad.
Visitors to Chester Zoo can experience a range of animal habitats, including the Islands, which is a recreation of Southeast Asian habitats, including Sumatra, Sulawesi, and the Philippines, and the impressive Elephant and Rhino houses, which allow visitors to get up close with these majestic animals. Other popular exhibits include the Realm of the Red Ape, a tropical rainforest home to orangutans and other primates, and the new Madagascar exhibit, which features lemurs, fossas, and other unique species found only on the island of Madagascar.
In addition to the animal exhibits, Chester Zoo offers a range of educational and interactive experiences for visitors, including keeper talks, animal encounters, and a variety of events throughout the year. There are also many restaurants and cafes on site, as well as a gift shop and play areas for children.
