The Bridge of Besalu is a 12th-century medieval bridge located in the town of Besalu in the Catalonia region of Spain. The bridge spans the Fluvia River, which runs through the town and was an important transportation route during the Middle Ages. The bridge has a total of nine arches and is approximately 105 meters long, with a width of 30 meters.
The bridge was constructed using Romanesque architecture, with rough-hewn stone and barrel vaults supporting the arches. The bridge was also used as a defensive structure, with a gatehouse located on one side of the bridge that could be closed to prevent enemy armies from crossing. The gatehouse has since been converted into a chapel.
The Bridge of Besalu is a popular tourist attraction and is one of the best examples of medieval bridge construction in Catalonia. It has been featured in several films and television shows, and is a popular spot for photography and sightseeing. The bridge is located in the historic center of Besalu, which is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and narrow cobblestone streets.
