Boyana Church (Bulgarian: Боянска църква) is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church located in the outskirts of Sofia, Bulgaria. It is situated in the Boyana quarter and is part of the Boyana Church complex, which also includes two other churches. The church was founded in the 10th century, but its current appearance dates back to the 13th century. The church is famous for its well-preserved frescoes, which date back to the 13th, 14th, and 19th centuries. The frescoes are considered some of the best examples of Eastern Orthodox art from the Middle Ages.
The church has three floors, and the frescoes are located on the second floor. They depict scenes from the life of Christ, as well as from the lives of various saints. The frescoes are notable for their vivid colors, intricate details, and realistic depictions of human figures.
Boyana Church was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. It is considered one of the most important cultural monuments in Bulgaria and is visited by tourists from around the world.
