Bardenas Reales is a semi-desert natural region located in the southeast of Navarre, Spain. It covers an area of 42,500 hectares and it is a unique landscape characterized by its unusual shapes, colours and textures. The terrain was formed by erosion of the local soil over time by the action of wind and water, and features a number of different formations, including badlands, plateaus, and mesas.
Bardenas Reales is an exceptional natural space and is home to a range of flora and fauna that are adapted to the dry, arid conditions. The vegetation includes esparto grass, thyme, rosemary, and juniper trees, while the fauna includes many bird species such as vultures, eagles, and larks.
The area is also home to various prehistoric, Roman, and Arab ruins, and it has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO due to its unique ecology and cultural heritage.
