Ascension Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Ascension, is a Russian Orthodox church located in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan. It was built in 1904-1907, during the period of the Russian Empire, and is one of the most beautiful and recognizable landmarks of the city.

The cathedral was designed by the Russian architect Andrei Pavlovich Zenkov, who is also known for designing the Zenkov Cathedral, located in the same city. It was built entirely of wood, without using any nails, and is considered one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world, with a height of 56 meters.

During the Soviet period, the cathedral was closed and used for various purposes, including a museum and a planetarium. In 1995, it was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church and underwent a major renovation. Today, it is a functioning church, and a popular tourist destination, known for its impressive wooden architecture and beautiful interior decoration, including frescoes and icons.

The cathedral is surrounded by a large park, which is a popular spot for locals and visitors to relax and enjoy the view of the city.
