Asam Church, also known as Asamkirche or St. Johann Nepomuk Church, is a Baroque-style church located in Munich, Germany. The church was built between 1733 and 1746 by the Asam brothers, Egid Quirin Asam and Cosmas Damian Asam, who were both artists and architects. They built the church as their private chapel and it was dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk.
The exterior of the church is relatively simple, but the interior is highly ornate with stucco work, frescoes, and sculptures. The church has a central nave with a small dome above it, flanked by two smaller chapels. The main altar is made of marble and has a painting of St. John Nepomuk, while the side altars are dedicated to St. Anne and St. Francis Xavier.
One of the highlights of the church is the stunning ceiling fresco painted by Cosmas Damian Asam. It depicts the life of St. John Nepomuk and is considered one of the best examples of Baroque ceiling painting in Germany. The stucco work throughout the church is also impressive and was created by Egid Quirin Asam.
Today, Asam Church is a popular tourist attraction in Munich and is open to visitors. It is also used for occasional religious services and concerts.
