The Acacus Mountains, also known as the Tadrart Acacus, is a mountain range located in southwestern Libya. The mountains are known for their impressive rock formations and prehistoric rock art, which has earned them recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is considered one of the most important rock art sites in the world, with over 15,000 drawings and engravings dating back to between 12,000 and 6,000 years ago. The art depicts various aspects of daily life, including hunting, dancing, and religious rituals. The Acacus Mountains are also home to several ancient caravan routes and trading centers, dating back to the time of the Garamantes, an ancient Berber people who inhabited the region. Today, the area is a popular tourist destination for hikers, rock climbers, and those interested in archaeology and history.
