Kosovo is a partially recognized state in Southeast Europe, located between Serbia, Albania, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. The majority of the population is Albanian, with a significant minority of Serbs and other ethnic groups. Its capital and largest city is Pristina.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, but its independence is not recognized by all countries, including Serbia, Russia, China, and some EU members. Kosovo is recognized by 98 out of 193 United Nations member states, including the United States and most European Union countries.
Kosovo is a parliamentary republic with a multi-party system. Its economy is among the poorest in Europe, with agriculture and mining being the main industries. The country has a young population, with a median age of 29.4 years. Albanian and Serbian are official languages, and the majority of the population is Muslim with a significant Christian minority.
Kosovo is a member of some international organizations, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, and the International Olympic Committee. The country is also a candidate for membership in the European Union and has been engaged in negotiations with the EU since 2011.
