The Vasco da Gama Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that spans the Tagus River in Lisbon, Portugal. It is the longest bridge in Europe, with a total length of 17.2 kilometers (10.7 miles). The bridge was named after the famous Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, who was the first European to reach India by sea.

The construction of the Vasco da Gama Bridge began in 1995 and was completed in 1998, in time for the Expo '98 world's fair that was held in Lisbon. The bridge was designed by Armando Rito and Michel Virlogeux, and it was built by a consortium of Portuguese and international construction companies.

The Vasco da Gama Bridge has a total of six lanes for vehicles, and it also includes a separate bike path and pedestrian walkway. The bridge is designed to withstand winds of up to 250 kilometers per hour (155 miles per hour) and it has a height of 148 meters (485 feet) at its highest point.

The Vasco da Gama Bridge has become an important landmark in Lisbon and is used by thousands of commuters and tourists every day. It has also been used as a location for several movies and television shows. The bridge is illuminated at night, which makes it a popular attraction for photographers and visitors to the city.
